CWL 2008
2006 Home Run Derby
CARTWRIGHT WINS 2006 HR DERBY

Everyone, at least most of the players, thought the 2006 Home Run Derby would come down to Josh Cartwright and CWL champion Brandan Cofer, and that's exactly what happened.

Last year's champ and the current champ squared off in a showdown of the top long-ball hitters in the CWL. Cartwright and Cofer both started off hot and carried that momentum all the way to the final round. Cartwright edged out Cofer in the final, five-out round with seven homers to Cofer's five.

Cartwright hit the most total home runs with 35, including 20 in the second round, while Cofer finished second with 20 total bombs. After clinching a spot in the second round, Cofer stopped his first-round assault with seven home runs and no outs. Cofer also stopped short in the second round with eight homers after he clinched a spot in the championship round. Cofer could have easily challenged Cartwright for the most total home runs had he chosen to.

Matt Catlett finished third in the derby, advancing to the second round with five homers in the first round. Catlett hit an impressive seven in the second round but failed to advance. Catlett hit a total of 12 home runs in the derby. Matt's brother, Jake Catlett, advanced to the second round with five first-round bombs, but despite hitting six in the round two, failed to advance.

Cartwright hit the longest homer of the day, a 165-foot blast, while Cofer jacked one 160-foot. Andy McMahan had a 158-foot bomb of his own.
