THE HOT SEAT (PATRICK LOWERY)

The upcoming weekend was originally scheduled to pit two powerhouse clubs from the American League in Wiffleball Club Rage vs. Team Yahtzee. Though both squads took home sweeps from TNT and Smoke, a schedule conflict has caused what many believe to be an epic battle, to be played out on a different weekend.

A lot of the credit for Rage’s success this weekend was put on their captain and last seasons ROY, Patrick “Big P” Lowery. Big P seemed to come up with RBIs at crucial times; none more than game 2 when he drove in the only two runs needed to secure a win and sweep of TNT.

Always gracious whether it’s in a winning effort or in defeat, Big P is a great guy and a great conversation piece. Here are some thoughts from the man on his team and his own game.

HS: How long have you been playing wiffleball?

Big P: Around 6 years, I started playing some fast-pitch tournaments with the GA. Storm.

HS: What’s the strongest part of your game?

Big P: I don’t have a strong part, but I think I pitch better than I hit.

HS: What’s the part that needs improvement?

Big P: There are a couple of things: obviously speed but I wish I could pull the trigger and stop watching so many pitches.

HS: You spend a lot of your time running the DWB, so what made you decide to get a team up for the CWL?

Big P: I played in the CWL last year and Josh and the CWL gang is great. I’m going to play until Josh kicks me out.

HS: How do you balance a 26-game schedule in the CWL and organizing tournaments in Dalton?

Big P: Fields are hard to come by so we can only have one every 2 to 3 months. After you find a field it’s not that hard.

HS: Rage is the perennial favorite to win the American League this year; do you think you can hold off TNT and Yahtzee?

Big P: I think we can. It’s not going to be easy. Yahtzee is a rookie team in the league but they are far from rookies. Everyone needs to jump on TNT early because they will surprise some teams with Cody pitching and when the "freak of nature" KUZ gets going.

HS: With the addition of Matt Roberson, would you say Rage is the most explosive team in the CWL?

Big P: Matt is a great addition, no question, but explosive is pretty strong. I would say a good all around “TEAM”.

HS: Any thoughts on how Rage performed on opening weekend and is there anything you want to improve on as a team?

Big P: I would grade opening weekend a B. We showed we can hit the ball but I think we should have scored more in the first game. I liked the way we didn’t get down after being dominated by Cody Burgiss for the first 4 innings and pulled out a win in the 2nd game. I would like to add a 5th player with some speed to help on defense.
